The Talisman Theatre Company was founded in 1942. In 1969 it moved from what is now Talisman Square to the present theatre in Barrow Road, which seats 156 people, as well as accommodating a bar/foyer with regular art exhibitions, and a studio for rehearsal and small-scale productions.  It is a registered charity and is completely run by volunteers. They receive no grants or sponsorship, and so all income is generated from ticket sales, membership and donations. The company includes and welcomes actors, designers, technicians, backstage hands, etc .
