RARE TWO TONES GORDON LIGHTFOOT 1ST LP CHATEAU   

 

 

1962/Cdn/Chateau CLP-1012.....Lightfoot, Gordon (Meredith). Singer-songwriter, guitarist, b Orillia, Ont, 17 Nov 1939; honorary LLD (Trent) 1978. As a boy soprano in Orillia, Lightfoot performed on local radio, in oratorio and operetta, and in Kiwanis festivals. He appeared at 13 in a concert of Kiwanis festival winners at Massey Hall, the site of many of his later triumphs. In his teens he sang in a barbershop quartet, studied piano, and taught himself to play drums. He also studied jazz orchestration 1957-8 at Westlake College of Modern Music in Los Angeles. Returning to Canada, he worked 1958-61 in Toronto with such groups as the Swinging Eight (the choral and dance group on CBC TV's 'Country Hoedown') and the Gino Silvi Singers, then began singing folksongs and playing guitar. He appeared with Terry Whalen as the Two Tones in southern Ontario coffeehouses, made the LP Two Tones Live at the Village Corner (1962, Chateau CLP-1012), and performed at the 1962 Mariposa Folk Festival....the tracks on this rare original lp are.....We Come Here To Sing, Fast Freight, The Fox, Dark As A Dungeon, Sinnerman, This Is My Song, Kilgarry Mountain, Calypso Baby, Summer Love, Children Go Where I Send Thee, Copper Kettle, and Lord I'm So Weary..........the glossy cover is in nice VG+ condition, the front looks clean with little wear,  the white back has some light staining and storage wear, tiny chip on bottom seam, no splits or delete and looks very nice, the vinyl is in VG+  condition, only light scuffs/scratches, the record plays nicely with some light noise between tracks, the odd spot of light crackle/ticks, nothing loud at all and the fidelity is nice, this is a super rare record and this is a nice copy!
