RARE The Beatles, Rubber Soul, first press STEREO, Parlophone.
The classic 1965 album - in perhaps its rarest form ... the stereo first press. Not many of these were sold in comparison to the mono copies. It's probably more rare than the loud cuts - even though those are more famous.
This one's from my own personal collection, which I am downsizing. It's been stored for years in an acid free cover and box, rarely played.
I'll give as honest a breakdown as I can so you know what you're getting.
The sleeve is good for its age - strong, sturdy and with flipbacks in tact. Spine is nice and readable. There is a little light creasing to the side opening - but good for how old it is.
The Emitex inner sleeve is original and decent. These are quite fragile so I'm happy to report that there are no splits to the sides - the only blemish, aside from the expected odd age-related creasing, is a a bit of a tear to one bit of the paper where it has come away from the protective cover underneath.
The labels are nice - a little spindle wear hairlines in the hard light, but good all-round. The vinyl, visually, still has a glossy shine - but does have a number of light hairlines and scuffs - one deeper hairline on each side. Not too drastic but expected, perhaps, for a record of this age which has been listened to over the years. I listened to it through and it played through without issue on my machine (old 90s Sony hi-fi), though with a stick on Norwegian Wood. My machine isn't particularly specialist, however, and I haven't cleaned the LP or anything, but I won't sell this guaranteeing a clean play.
The matrixes are true stereo first pressings, YEX 178-2 and YEX 179-2 .
The stampers are very low at 1(?)/P and 2/0.
In all, this is a decent all-round copy of a stone cold classic. It's obviously been played, although treated pretty well in the process. But the main selling point, I think, is its rarity. Not many of these around - a legit stereo of an album which didn't see many made.
