This is an ultra-rare "3rd state" STEREO pressing. The white trunk cover was carefully peeled by the previous owner, revealing the original- and highly controversial - "butcher photo" underneath.
Unlike many "3rd state" covers which have nicks and tears from the old glue from the pasteover, the "butcher photo" of this particular copy is ALMOST COMPLETELY INTACT with only a few minor flaws.
Overall, colors are vibrant with some very light age staining on the background. Some light shelf-wear is prevalent on the lower left corner (under John's seat). Additionally, there is some light touch-up on the jacket- especially around the top corners (Capitol logo on right and "stereo" banner on top left).
The jacket itself has a bottom seam split and wear in the spine with aging / shelfwear on the back cover. Vinyl is "VG" with some hairline scratches. Vinyl has been play-tested - no skips but some occasional surface noise.
In addition, this "butcher" comes with the ORIGINAL GOLD "CAPITOL '66 INNER SLEEVE- complete with period Capitol Records advertising!
Keeping in mind the previously mentioned flaws, STEREO butchers are generally valued up to $1,000. THEY ARE MORE RARE THAN THE MONO EDITION BY A RATIO OF 5:1.
In addition, many stereo covers do not peel as well as mono covers due to the different glue that was used used to paste the more acceptable trunk slick over the controversial butcher image.
The package, offered here "AS - IS" in this listing, will only increase in value over the years.
It is suitable for framing and will make a notable addition to any vinyl or rock memorabilia collection!
