K. Deep and Jagmohan
Kaur are household names among the Punjabi speaking communities in
India and abroad. Records of their songs sell like hot cakes in the
bazaars of Punjab and other countries. A number of times they had
successful shows in U.S.A., Canada, U.K., Germany, Denmark, Malaysia,
Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok etc. Traditional melodies from Heer
Ranjha, Mirza Sahiban, Sassi Punnu, Pooran and other catchy throbbing
Punjabi songs are sung with infectious enthusi- asm by K. Deep and
Jagmohan Kaur.
Rangoon born K. Deep
is an all-round artist, known as a king of stage. He has a magic in his
throat and has sung all types of songs. No doubt, he is popularly known
for his comedy songs, the nature has given him such a melodious voice
that he has sung a number of serious songs as well, like Shiv Kumar
Batalvi's "ROG BAN KEY RAIH GAYA" and "PUNYAN DE CHANN NU KOI MASYYA..."
etc. in their previous Long Play. Polished artist K. Deep always keeps
his audience enthralled by his songs, witty tales and musical voices
U.K. without any instrument. His compering of the shows is flawless and the audience never experiences a dull moment.
Jagmohan Kaur, with
her lilting voice, pours forth melodies as if her heart sang out the
words. She has been paid glow- ing tribute by the Indian as well as
foreign Press and called her "The Nightingale of Punjab". She started
her career as a folk singer and likes to sing traditional songs. Her
first songs were "BAPU VEY ADD HUNNI AN" and "GHARA VAJDA GHAROLI
WAJDI". She has a unique quality of singing all kinds of folk tunes;
especially "KAFI BULLEY SHAH" and "MIRZA SAHIBAN". She has also sung a
num- ber of duets with her husband K. Deep, such as "MERI GAL SONO
SARDARJI" and "BABA VEY KALA MAROR" etc.
At home in Ludhiana,
they are no strangers to the Film Industry, or the T.V. Jagmohan Kaur
has played film roles in various Punjabi films, and K. Deep has sung
playback. Their recent film was "DAAJ", a Silver Jubilee film and
Dharminder's "SANTO BANTO".
This is a rare 1981 LP vinyl record by Jagmohan Kaur featuring Punjabi folk tales. The record plays at 45 RPM and has a 12" size.
