Description
Vintage rare autographed 45 rpm Pacific NW girl group record: THE PEPETTES - Encore Baby b/w My Tears Came Down - Pep Records, with 'SBX 100' in the deadwax, Blue Echo (ASCAP); both tracks written and produced by Ray Griff; mfg. by Sound Productions in Portland, Oregon. SIGNED by Judy B. and Micky Lea (the two women in the group); I think this was released in the late 1960's or early 1970's. A-side is a good up-tempo garage-y rock song; B-side is a ballad. You can hear these on the youtube channel "Ham Randy".
The Pepettes were an all-girl trio that toured the US and Canada during the 60's and 70's, finally settling in Portland, OR in the mid 70's. They toured the Far East during the Vietnam war to entertain the troops. Eventually Pepe, the drummer and namesake for the band moved to New York and the remaining two ladies hired a male drummer and changed the name to The Peptones. They also cut an album of cover songs called Rimrock Country. Mickey was the lead guitar player and sang harmony; Judy was the bass player and lead singer. The label is not one of the usual Pep labels and was probably Ray Griff's own label, or possibly was created just for this record and named for the group. Griff recorded almost exclusively in Nashville, but he was born in British Columbia and could have lived for a time in or near Portland, OR. Blue Echo (ASCAP) was active in the late '60s and '70s.
Condition is VG+ (still glossy with minor surface scuffing and a few soft surface scratches, a very tiny edge chip, and clean labels; plays VG+ to EX).
