RARE*FUNK*SOUL*BREAKS*REMEMBER MY SONG*LABI SIFFRE*HEAR
This is the infamous Remember My Song album by Labi Siffre. Alleged to have been limited to a run of only 500 copies, and you are looking at one of those originals. This is so rare it's staggering. And the music contained on this piece of wax is also staggering. Despite having both Chas Hodges and his mate Dave Peacock on Bass and Guitar and backing vocal duties, it didn't turn into a Cockney knees up, but a piece of stone cold killer Funk. Although maybe not as surprising when you learn of the involvement of Big Jim Sullivan behind the desk. This takes on all comers, Namely in the shape of the Bass line driven Break hunters dream find 'The Vulture'. To make matters worse, at least 50% of the pressed up copies of this album have a pressing fault which always skips the needle exactly where the guitar hits the drums after the break at the beginning of the tune. This has always made it just that bit more frustrating for the people that find one of those copies. Some dealers don't like to mention this fault, or don't even know. Check out this clip of The Vulture to check this copy which is clean and skip free. Here:
Of course, next up is the hip hop fraternities favoured groove, I Got The. Here:
It's quite funny to think that an openly gay Englishman born in Hammersmith and backed by Chas and Dave gave Eminem his big break, and break I suppose. Both clips are shorter than the actual tracks.
The original textured cover has edge wear but no splits, and some hair line creases and only the very slightest record wear. I would play safe and give it a confident VG. The vinyl is beautiful and has two very light superficial surface marks which do not sound. It is a very strong VG+ as you can hear in the clip.
For track listing see super size photo above.
The Photo and the sound clip are included as part of the description.
Thank you.
Please see my entire auction for a lot of very rare Jazz, Funk, Soul, Cuban Funk, Breaks, Disco and more. This is a big sale. Don't miss out.
Record Collector Magazine Grading System. MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Un played should be Mint. EXCELLENT The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. VERY GOOD The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. GOOD The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc. FAIR The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced. POOR The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing. BAD The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.lordgumboot Store
