This tape is in great condition, and plays with great Analog Fidelity on my gear.

Most Carpenters' Collectors will probably have these recordings, on the reissue, "Ticket To Ride"

But...

If you are reading this you KNOW what you have found in eBay!

This same music was re-issued later, as the album, "Ticket To Ride", and that one is rare enough in the limited-release Reel Tape format.

But This?

I have seen this fetch well over a hundred dollars, in LP (vinyl) format, the most common of the few available.

This is just TOO RARE!

The Box is in good, but not great condition, showing  light wear (a spot above the title, center top)(front), some wrinkling of the rear artwork and a bit more wear (rear) and a split at the paper seam where the box hinges (this, and the less-than-perfectly-flat rear artwork would be a simple, and  easy fix, for the private individual, or, a book binder could do this beautifully, with their eyes closed...but due to the extreme scarcity of this rare and precious collectable, I will do nothing to it, beyond packing it very carefully for transport, worldwide, or right next door.

Now, I believe he would want this to go to the biggest Carpenters' Fan in the world.

He's gone, so, that would have to be...

MY take on "Offering?"

 I really like this music.

OK, I am a Carpenters' Fan, and , along with people like k.d.lang, I appreciate what a fantastic instrument the voice of Karen Carpenter really IS.

(Have YOU ever tried to sing "Yesterday Once More" in the key/pitch Karen C. does? My advice: Don't!)

As a Music Fanatic, I also understand just how important Richard was in creating these records! He is a master arranger and producer, maybe one day, others will realize his sheer brilliance and he will receive  the credit long overdue him!

This is a cool Carpenters Album, because...well..RICHARD SINGS..a pretty good bit, probably more on "Offering"/"Ticket To Ride" than on any other Carpenter's Release.

He aint bad, either.

Obligatory Pitch from Critics, etc.:

      The Carpenters' first long-player, cut in 1969 (and originally released as Offering) amid the breakdown of America's postwar social contract, the Vietnam War's soaring to a crescendo of bloodshed, the coming apart of the Beatles, and the final flowering (and wilting) of the youth rebellion of the prior four years. And in the middle of all of that, Karen and Richard Carpenter issued a finely crafted record that moved effortlessly between Spanky & Our Gang-style pop/rock ("Your Wonderful Parade") and art-song.

        In some ways, Ticket to Ride is the Carpenters' most interesting album, for it contains a range of interests and sounds that were modified or abandoned on subsequent albums.

         The lushly orchestrated "Someday" is a brilliant showcase for Richard's arranging skills and the most dramatic side of Karen's voice — it points the way toward songs like "Crescent Noon" on the next album, and although that highly dramatic sound proved a blind alley, it did result in some ravishing performances by the duo.

       "All I Can Do" is the most solid reminder of their origins as part of a light jazz trio called Spectrum, a pleasing vocal workout that might've been well covered by the Manhattan Transfer.

       Their version of "Get Together" is about as convincing as a version by the Cowsills would've been, but it's balanced by Richard's slow ballad arrangement of "Ticket to Ride," an unexpected and beguiling (if too upbeat) cover of Neil Young's "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing," and a couple of superb originals, "Eve" and "All of My Life."

     Bid NOW, and throw the bank at this!

       I have seen this twice in eBay, the first copy went for some astronomical amount of money, and you are looking at the only other reel tape of the original Carpenters' "OFFERING" I have ever seen in ebay.

TICKET TO RIDE was originally released on LP in 1969 under the title OFFERING.

The Carpenters:

Richard Carpenter (vocals, keyboards);

 Karen Carpenter (vocals, bass, drums).
Additional personnel:

Gary Sims (guitar);

Joe Osborn, Bob Messinger (bass);

 Herb Alpert (shaker).

        As strange as it may seem in light of their decades of commercial success, Karen and Richard Carpenter's first album was a flop when it was originally released in 1969 under the title OFFERING.

      Only after the siblings' mournful cover of The Beatles' "Ticket To Ride" became a surprise hit did the album, quickly withdrawn and reissued under the single's title, follow suit.
        TICKET TO RIDE /OFFERING is an interesting and arresting debut.

        The album is bracketed by Richard Carpenter piano instrumentals ("Invocation" and "Benediction") and featuring covers of the Youngbloods' "Get Together" and Buffalo Springfield's excellent "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing" alongside a number of Richard Carpenter-Joe Bettis originals.
