'Welcome Back Linda Lou' (1964)
From his recorded debut in 1958, it was only a few years later that Ray Sharpe found himself at the Hollywood Bowl along with Dick Clark, Duane Eddy, Freddy Cannon, Jan & Dean, Annette, and others. His nation-wide hit "Linda Lu" was lighting up the charts and that kept him on the road with groups like the Coasters and Laverne Baker. When he played the Palladium in L.A., he shared the bill with B. B. King and Dee Clark.
It was a very good time. But that's just what his fans back in Dallas-Ft. Worth had known about for years. His headquarters was his regular gig at the Skyliner Ballroom in Ft. Worth. And even though Sharpe recorded a lot with Jamie Records in '59-'60, there never was an album to capitalize on the hit single "Linda Lu." What an oversight.
In 1964, this seldom seen LP was recorded by Ray for little Award Records in Ft. Worth. It caught that great rockin' blues sound of Ray Sharpe, and included many of his fan favorites, including some fun covers of items like "Haunted House" and the Chuck Betty tune "No Money Down."
This was Ray's first ever album, and wasn't distributed widely outside of Texas. It seldom turns up in ANY condition, much less as crisp as this.
