THESE GRADINGS ARE BASED ON THE RECORD COLLECTOR RATING SYSTEM. IF YOU'RE UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BUTCHER'S AT THE NOTES BELOW - ESPECIALLY IF THE RECORD HAS BEEN GRADED AS GOOD OR FAIR.
I DON'T HAVE THE TIME - OR, SOMETIMES, THE INCLINATION - TO PLAY THE RECORDS I'M LISTING. I WOULDN'T SULLY MY SYSTEM WITH ANYTHING FROM THE 80'S, FOR EXAMPLE - EXCEPT THE SMITHS. SO MOST GRADINGS ARE VISUAL ONLY. BUT I ALWAYS TRY TO ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION.
Record Collectors Grading System
Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.. (THESE RECORDS WILL ALMOST ALWAYS SHOW A TENDENCY TO SNAP, CRACKLE AND POP, IF ONLY A LITTLE)
Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing. (THESE WILL ALMOST ALWAYS SHOW A TENDENCY TO SNAP, CRACKLE AND POP, AND SOMETIMES MAY HOP, SKIP AND JUMP A LITTLE).
Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc.. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
I'M SELLING OTHER CD'S AND MUSIC ON EBAY RIGHT NOW. HAVE A WEE LOOKY. **Check out my other items!**
AND NOW A WORD OR TWO ABOUT DEAR OLD DEKE, AND HIS WAY OF WORKING. I LIVE NEAR A SMALL POST OFFICE, AND I'M KINDA FREE ALL DAY, SO I CAN PROMISE THAT I'M A REAL POSTMASTER FLASH WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING STUFF OUT. ALL ITEMS ARE ON THEIR WAY THE SAME DAY IF PURCHASED BEFORE 2 pm, UNLESS I'M BUSY ELSEWHERE. BUT I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF THE ODD ERRANT POSTMAN PAT. I ALWAYS GET PROOF OF POSTING, AND IF YOU WANT AN ITEM SENT MORE SECURELY JUST EMAIL ME FOR OTHER RATES.
I ALWAYS USE GOOD JIFFY BAGS OR CARD MAILERS FOR CD'S, AND PROFESSIONAL MAILERS FOR LP'S AND SINGLE RECORDS - WITH TWO CARDBOARD STIFFENERS.
LOTS OF THE MUSIC I SELL IS SECOND HAND, AND I DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR THE INCLINATION TO CHECK THEM BY PLAYING THEM - UNLESS THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY VALUABLE, IN WHICH CASE I ALWAYS DO. MOST GRADINGS ARE VISUAL, BECAUSE OF THIS. SO PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU'RE UNHAPPY WITH AN ITEM BEFORE YOU FLY DOWN THAT OLD NEGATIVE ALLEYWAY. I BET WE CAN SORT SOMETHING OUT TO MAKE YOU SMILE.
DEAR OLD DEKE WON'T LET YOU DOWN. ASK MY WIFE. BETTER STILL, ASK MY SON.
