(These dates encompassed the very first recording session of the legendary association of the Fritz Reiner with the Chicago Symphony and RCA Victor, and in fact may have been their very longest session ever. Beginning at 9 a.m. on March 6th, the session continued until 1 a.m on March 7th, with one hour off for lunch and two hours off for dinner. They were devoted to two works by Strauss - Ein Heldenleben and the Dance of the Seven Veils on this tape. The orchestra finished up Heldenleben at 10:30 p.m. on March 6th, then completed Salome’s dance in the following two and a half hours.)

These recordings were originally issued separately on LP in mono only in 1954 and 1956. Neither was ever available in stereo in RCA's Red Seal LP line, and did not appear in stereo on LP at all until budget-line Victrola issues in 1969! The first reference I have found to this 2-track tape comes in the RCA Tape Catalog from July of 1957, so it was the first issue of these recordings in stereo, and the only one in stereo at all for another dozen years.

The tape is in excellent condition; its box shows only minor shelf wear and a little Scotch tape repair.
