Description

RICHARD STRAUSS -

Suite from "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme"

Fritz Reiner/Chicago Symphony Orchestra

RCA DCS-43

2-Track Stereo for "In-Line" heads

7 1/2 ips; 7-inch reel; notes on the back of the box

Recorded in Orchestra Hall, Chicago

April 17 & 18, 1956

Richard Mohr, producer

Lewis Layton, engineer

This recording was originally issued on LP in mono only in August of 1956, but was never in stereo on LP until it was issued on the Victrola budget line on VICS-1199 in 1966.  This tape was announced as a new release in July of 1957, and thus was the only stereo issue of the recording for nearly ten years!  Its last appearance was in RCA's 1961 catalog, after which all 2-tracks were discontinued.  With terrific solos from the legendary Adolph Herseth, CSO principal trumpet for over fifty years!

The tape is in excellent condition; its box shows only minor shelf wear.
