Description
RCA LSC 2378, SCHUBERT, “Death and the Maiden”, Juilliard String Quartet (1960) 1s/1s, A1/A1 (I) Indianapolis pressing. This is NOT a reissue – it is the original 50+ year old shaded dog 1s/1s pressing. It spent many years HP's TAS Super Disk List and deservedly so - the sound of the quartet is VERY realistic. This is my own personal copy, and the vinyl surfaces are clean, glossy, and exceptionally quiet with NO pops, clicks or skips. There is only a single VERY soft tic on side 1. There are NO scuff marks that I can detect. The vinyl looks and plays near mint (NM). The labels are clean with NO spindle marks, and the inner sleeve is NM (see photos). The front of the jacket is very clean, and the back is also clean, except that the original owner has written the timings of each movement in the upper left corner and underlined some of the text. There is also a small split in the middle of the bottom seam (see pictures). I would therefore grade the jacket as VG+. In summary, this wonderful golden age recording looks and plays virtually perfectly, but the jacket is marred by some light writing on the back side.
