RCA LSC 2405, SIBELIUS Symphony No. 5, Karelia Suite, Alexander Gibson, London Symphony (1960) 1s/1s, A1/A1, (I) Indianapolis pressing. This is NOT a reissue – it is the original 50+ year old 1s/1s pressing. This copy looks and plays virtually new. I can hardly find anything wrong with it. Recorded in England, the Decca version (SPA 122) spent many years on HP’s TAS Super Disk List. The sound is very realistic with huge dynamics and a wide and deep stage. The Karelia Suite is wonderfully spectacular. The vinyl surfaces are clean, glossy, and exceptionally quiet with NO pops, clicks, tics, or skips - they are dead quiet, and they look and play near mint (NM) with only some harmless paper scuffs that are barely visible in certain light. The inner sleeve also shows little, if any, wear, and the labels are clean with NO spindle wear, but 3 tiny black dots on side 2, which I think are a manufacturing defect (see photos). The jacket also looks new, with no seam splits or corner dings, and grades NM (see photos). In summary, this is a MINT copy of this wonderful golden-age recording.
