RCA LSC 2456, Lalo, Symphonie Espagnole, Henryk Szeryng (Violin) / Walter Hendl, Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1961) 1s/1s, A1/A1 (I) Indianapolis pressing. This is NOT a reissue – it is the original 50+ year old, 1s/1s, shaded dog pressing. This copy is not quite perfect, but the vinyl is EXTREMELY clean and plays almost perfectly. This is one of the rarest of the RCA living stereo LP's and is a landmark recording of Symphonie Espagnole. The violin sound is very realistic, and the hall sound of the orchestra takes your breath away - especially the pizzicato parts in second movement. The vinyl surfaces are clean, glossy and very quiet with only a single moderate tic on side 1, and another single light tic on side 2. There are NO scuff marks that I can detect. The vinyl looks and plays near mint, but I will grade it as EX+ because of the two tics. The labels are clean with NO spindle marks (see photos). The jacket grading is VG: the front is clean except for a light scuff, and the back is clean except for one smudge (see picture). However, there is a serious seam split on the spine that makes it difficult to read (see photo), and another on the top edge that has been nicely taped. In summary, this is a very nice copy of this wonderful golden age violin recording. The vinyl looks and plays near mint, but the jacket is marred by two seam splits.
