RCA Living Stereo, SB-2065, early UK ED1 pressing with D-1D matrix endings

A well-cared for UK first issue RCA Living Stereo disc in an overall Very Good+ condition - a grade of Excellent would have been given if it were not for the superficial non-sounding surface staining [see below], with the original flimsy scalloped backed laminated outer sleeve and original "Stereophonic Record" inner sleeve without the polythene lining [it appears that some RCA Living Stereo discs were not issued with a poly-lined inner-sleeve].
The disc is a wonderful sounding copy with just a few very light signs of play.  The sound quality is rich and clear with no distortion whatsoever, while the quiet sections are deeply quiet with no discernable background crackle to my ears. And for a late 1950s disc, the vinyl is exceptionally quiet. Apart from a very small number of 'ticks' to both sides, the record plays very well indeed. But please bear in mind that this record has probably not been played for decades, so a deep clean with the appropriate means is recommended.


Matrix stampings  An early UK grooved pressing on the red and silver label with the following matrix marks:

Vinyl
Side 1: VG+. Clean surface with a number fine non-sounding surface hairline marks from sleeve retrieval and insertion - no scratches or other types of marks that go into the grooves.  There is a very small number of lone or unobtrusive 'ticks' - probably either static generated or very fine trapped dust, which a deep clean as suggested earlier may remove, or are possible minuscule manufacture defects as these were a very common feature on pre-1965 vinyl whatever the brand.  There is also some very light surface staining [please see last photo as I have tried my best to show this in direct sunlight], which is probably caused by paper generated acid transfer due to the lack of a polythene liner in the inner sleeve.  This staining however has no effect on sound reproduction as this side plays very well indeed with all 'ticks' being quickly forgotten about within the majesty and splendour of the performance and overall listening experience.

Side2:  VG+. As side 1 but with an addional series of 10 or so ever-so gentle muffled 'boomps' during a quiet passage about a quarter way into play.  These are barely discernable and definitely do not distract, and appears to be caused by one of the very feint surface anomalies in the vinyl from manufacture, a feature also very common on 50s and early 60s vinyl.

Laminated outer sleeve G++: secure yet flimsy design sleeve is without any splits or tears yet with the following flaws: slight age-toning with neat edges and lightly thumbed opening edge [please see photo]; light bumps and wear including laminate loss to corner tips as well as a small amount of laminate loss and lift to lower edge.  There is also some disc impression along with other signs of shelving friction, a water stain to front edge, and some red pen inscriprions stating Monteux's birth date, symphony time duration, and a letter  P after the identifying disc number.

Inner sleeve  Neat and clean condition with a few light creases.

Inspection of records  I use a truth-revealing point source light, ie. sunlight, to expose any likely-looking audible flaws on any record I list. If I find any such flaws, then a description of these is provided after a test-play of the relevant side. I will also test-play records on request if required. If an inspection reveals no such likely-looking flaws and that the side is very clear, glossy, and showing either very few or no signs of play, then I will grade that side as either EX or NM, depending on the level of the most minuscule of surface marks.  However with such grades, please bear in mind that there may still be a few noticeable isolated 'ticks' or 'pops' here and there, and/or occasional mild surface noise - records in such condition yet not been played for decades can still accumulate noise, although a deep-groove clean with the appropriate means should make things silent once again.  While any record I list will appear clean, I would advise the purchaser to give their purchases a good clean with the approprite means [although they do have a careful clean before any test-play]. For test-playing, a Pioneer PL-L1000 turntable fitted with either - depending on record condition - a Denon DL-160 cartridge or an AT95e cartridge is used.
Packaging  Records are wrapped and sent within thick, sturdy double-walled card arranged at cross-grain to one another for maximum rigidity - I will never use flimsy mailers made out of thin card. Corners of the package will also be made further rigid and well clear of the corners of the record's outer sleeve.
I will also remove the disc from the outer sleeve before packing in order to prevent ring impression and splits to the outer sleeve.

Delivery & insurance  Delivery is either via Royal Mail, Parcelforce, or any other suitable courier to any world-wide destination including the UK should Royal Mail prove too expensive for heavy items.  Delivery is alsways sent with the appropriate insurance to cover the final sale price, and a tracking number - whether for tracked delivery, signed delivery, or both - is always provided. I will also combine and reduce postage costs for multiple purchases. Please let me know if you have a delivery preference other than those shown. 

PLEASE NOTE: I am not in the practice of profiting from delivery costs, I only add an extra 50p on top of Royal Mail delivery costs to cover the cost of high quality packaging materials. The delivery rates shown for destinations are realistic and close to what I actually pay.
