"REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE" - 1955 Warner Bros. 12-inch One-sided Record promoting the new film release. These records, made to advertise new movie releases, were not available to the public.
This James Dean film was released only weeks after his untimely death in a car accident. (James Dean died on September 30, 1955, and the film was released weeks later, on October 26, 1955) This promotional record was obviously produced well before his death. Motion Picture Studios often prepared their promotional materials - posters, pressbooks, advertising and exploitation materials well in advance of the actual release of their respective films.
This promotional recording promotes Dean as "... the sensation of "East Of Eden" calling his performance as "overpoweringly played by James Dean." It describes the film as a story of "... the undertow of today's juvenile violence."
Air Trailers, Records that advertised movies via radio, were usually made available to theater managers or movie exhibitors through pressbooks from the film studios. Theatre managers sometimes ordered such records when they were ordering posters and lobby photos for films they would soon be showing. Theater managers would arrange for their broadcast by local radio stations as "coming attractions". These records are sometimes called "spot announcements", as radio stations would insert the varying length recordings into available "spots" during daily broadcasting schedules.
Included with the record is the original script of the promotional recordings on this record (see photo of page 1 of the script)
