Description
Renaissance – self-titled LP (orig. Mexico STEREO RAFF RF-938 from 1971)
ULTRA RARE progressive rock album by ALFREDO DIAZ ORDAZ, the son of former Mexican President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz. Assisted by a group of session musicians including members of EL RITUAL, and Armando Nava, founder and leader of LOS DUG DUG’S. This record appears in Pokora's "1001 Record Collector Deams" book with four rarity-stars.
Musically, the album contains a heady brew of hard-edged, drug-induced progressive rock with the occasional garage vibe. Rasping vocals (in English) and some of the most insane fuzz guitar you will ever hear. ‘The Gift’ on side two is particularly impressive with its use of heavy guitar, flute and tribal rhythms. Get the picture? Kuis Lopez designed the amazing (and grotesque) cover art.
Excerpt from Vernon Joynson’s ‘Dreams, Fantasies and Nightmares’:
A legendary Mexican album whose repertoire spanned both progressive and psychedelic rock.
