When celebrated American eccentrics The Residents first released Snakey Wake back in 1988, they didn't bother releasing it on vinyl. Instead, the single-track album was released solely on CD. Thankfully, reissue imprint Secret has done a deal with the maverick combo to ensure that it can finally come out on wax. The brilliant original track - an eccentric, non-stop suite that shifts shape and style a multitude of times over 20 brilliant and hugely entertaining minutes - is naturally featured on the A-side, with a live recording from August 1987 on the reverse. This follows the same shape and structure as the original, but feels altogether more atmospheric and out-there. Which, given that The Residents were always pretty out there, is saying something.
