Description

DICK FARINA & ERIC von SCHMIDT with Ethan Signer & occasionally Blind Boy Grunt; Folklore Records (UK), F-Leut / 7. 1963. Vinyl & cover VG+: cover has small tear where the record must have banged into it on inside center edge of spine (does not show on the spine) with a small amount of the usual 44 year old lamination pull-away on the left side of the back cover.

Celebrated LP done over a drunken few days in January of 1963. Fariña was in the UK trying to scare up interest in his not-yet-finished novel; Fariña talked von Schmidt into coming over; Dylan was doing a tv show and Ethan Signer (Charles River Valley Boys) was over there with his wife. Fariña managed to get a record deal, coax von Schmidt into flying over and the three and a half folkies (Dylan arrived very late in the game) managed to come up with this great example of early 60s 1 take folk music.

This one features the black, purple and green label, which may or may not be a first. I know the 2nd label was all black. But then, you probably know this better than me.

Note: (See highlighting in LP title line above) von Schmidt said his original idea - since his name was over the mule's butt - was to highlight the joke by making every second letter in Schmidt in a different color. This fine example of high humor didn’t get very far with Folklore Records...
