This is a test pressing copy of the re-release on high quality 180gm vinyl by the reissue vinyl specialist Diverse Records of the RICHARD THOMPSON ‘The Old Kit Bag’ album of 2003.
The records are unplayed, both in protective inner bags and plastic covers, inside a white 12” sleeve with a sticker with credits on the front.
Richard Thompson is a guitarist of rare technique and passion, and a songwriter par excellence. 2003's ‘The Old Kit Bag’ is one of Richard's simplest and most unadorned albums. Recorded in a straightforward and stripped-down manner, with just bassist Danny Thompson, drummer Michael Jerome, and harmony vocalist Judith Owen along for company, The Old Kit Bag captures Thompson in spare but sympathetic circumstances; the performances are strong and confident, without a note or gesture wasted, the arrangements are simple and clean, and the band perform with perfect neatness behind that sinewy voice and articulate guitar-playing. Instead of being buried under mounds of studio detritus, Thompson’s shimmering electric guitar is given its full due, and if it doesn’t reduce you to shivering tears, you’re encased in stone…
