Description: This anthology contains 31 tracks of unique music that channels James Brown's raw funk as well as Jimi Hendrix's fuzzy psychedlia; music that flirts with Fela's Afro-Beat and Congolese rumbas and simultaneously brings his blues of Taj Mahal back to Africa.

"An amazing set that documents the early years of the Zamrock scene – the funk and psych informed Afro Rock coming from vocalist and African guitar legend Rikki Ililonga and his group Musi O Tunya in Zambia from 1973 to 1976 – compiled beautifully in this great set from Now Again/Stones Throw! It's truly incredible stuff that blends fuzzed out guitar psychedelia and the raw rhythms and brass punctuated funk and soul masterfully! Ililonga's talent is is highlighted all the more in this compilation, given that includes the material with the group he founded, Musi-O-Tunya, a fully fleshed out group electric guitar, bass, western and African drums & percussion and sax – as well as the Zambia album by Rikki Illilonga in which he sings and plays all instruments except trumpet, and his Sunshine Love album, in which he sings and plays all except bass and drums – both a rawer, bluesier psych soul approach. The LP version of Darkest Light features exact replicas of 3 original LPs: Musi-O-Tunya's Wings Of Africa plus Rikki Ililonga's Sunshine Love and Zambia LPs. 25 tracks on 3LPs, plus a 12 page booklet with liner notes by Eothen Alapatt and an interview of Ililonga by Eothen.
