Description
I take pleasure in offering for sale this 1972 HMV EMI 18LP Box Set, Cat.No. RLS 702.
WAGNER
Der Ring
Des
Nibelungen
Rome Symphony Orchestra & Chorus of RAI
Conducted by
Wilhelm Furtwangler
(By arrangement of with SACIS on behalf of RAI-Radiotelevisione Italiana)
(Recorded October/November 1953)
I have closely inspected all 36 sides of the vinyl and can confirm that they all are in pristine condition, looking like the records have had very little play, if any at all. It's fair to say that they are a little dusty and will need to be cleaned, so because I don't have the know how or equipment, this will be left for the winning bidder to undertake.
The Box is fully intact, but heavily soiled / browned, which I suspect is age related, and perhaps from exposure to damp at some point in its life.
The set also includes 5 Booklets, RLS 702 - RLS 706, all in crisp clean condition, and are as follows:
702 = Forward by Elizabeth Furtwangler (synopsis of "The Ring")
703 = Das Rheingold
704 = Die Walkure
705 = Siegfried
706 = Gotterdammerung
This public performance recording was originally
made in 1953 by the technical staff of Radiotelevisione
Italiana, Rome.
For this LP version, copy tapes were prepared in Italy
from the metal positives held in radiotelevisione
Italiana's Archives. These tapes were subsequently
edited for LP side lengths. The basic sound of the
original record was of variable quality but improvements
have been effected at the EMI studios in London.
While it is appreciated that the overall sound quality does not compare with today's standards, undoubtedly this great Furtwangler performance
should be made generally available to record collectors
the world over.
