RINGO STARR
“RINGO’S ROTOGRAVURE”
MEGARARE original Polydor Records very first STEREO press released in 1977 in Chile by Polydor Records, made and distributed by Discos Philips (Philips Records), licensed from the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft, Germany, through Polydor International GMBH, Germany, catalog number 2310 473, with hand etched matrix numbers 2310-473-A EB-C in Side 1 and 2310-473-B EB-C in Side 2. It’s interesting to notice that in the deadwax of both sides is written the exact day of pressing, “8 3 77” (March 8th of 1977) in Side 1 and “29 3 77” (March 29th of 1977) in Side 2. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!
“CLOSE TO THE EDGE” was originally released in September 1976 in USA by Atlantic Records and by Polydor Records in UK, and we had to wait until March 1977 to see this record released here in Chile and like usual in the period we got it with an UNIQUE COVER!!! The cover is a is a real gatefold cover made of two pieces of cardboard, one for outer cover and the other for the inside cover, folded in the middle, with the left half fully glued and the right half glued at the top and bottom flaps of the outer cover to “make” the mouth. Front and back covers keep strictly the original artwork with all text in English only, but back cover has some differences, in Chile it’s printed the catalog number at middle top edge and the Polydor Records logo at bottom middle edge, sides aren’t identified and Side 1 is right aligned. In Chile we also got the insert with the lyrics, which also have the catalog number at top right corner and as you can see in the pictures, it’s “moved” to the right side the Side 1 and to the left side the Side 2, you can even see the factory mark where the insert should have been cut. In labels the album title and tracklist are written in English only, with full credits for songwriters and for Arif Mardin as producer, with additional information about licenses and for Wibble Records Ltd. But like Chilean pressings usually have some hidden unique characteristics, this isn’t the exception and you can see some errors, the song “Cookin’ (In The Kitchen Of Love)”, correctly titled in the insert, it’s shortened “Cookin’” in both back cover and label, the credit for songwriter Vincent “Vini” Poncia is misspelled “VINCE Poncia” and song “Las Brisas” isn’t numbered (4) in label. WOW!!! In the case you know this record, here in Chile it didn’t include the plastic magnifying glass. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE PRESS of this classic album by Ringo Starr, with UNIQUE GATEFOLD COVER, UNIQUE ERRORS and complete with the INSERT, A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Ringo Starr and also The Beatles!!! And WHAT A GREAT CONDITION!!!
The cover was already described and it’s in great VG+ or EX- condition, clean and complete, with wear in the edges and corners, more evident in the spine, with some creases and ring marks in back cover. The insert is in EX- or EX condition, with some wear in corners, light creases and evident age browning. The record is in superb EX or EX+ condition both sides, glossy and clean, with only some soft scuffs, hard to see at first sight, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in NM- or NM condition, absolutely clean and clear, no marks, no writings at all, only minimal spindle hole wear, more evident in Side 2. The sound is the best part, it’s in strong EX+ or even NM- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), only some minimal light crackles here and there, more evident in the silent parts between tracks, which of course don’t cause any distraction. Overall, a nice record, with a cover and insert in still great condition, a glossy record, almost immaculate labels and amazing sound quality after about 45 years, which won’t disappoint anyone!!! WOW!!! And keep in mind the UNIQUE COVER, date of pressing in the deadwax, UNIQUE ERRORS and it’s complete with the insert!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.
Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…
Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile
_________________________________________________________
We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.
MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.
NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK
We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
