Description
RINGO STARR: Sentimental Journey (Apple, PCS 7101, 1970, LP)
On the original dark Apple label. 1U matrix suffixes.
So, it is 1970 and your band is breaking up around you. Make a solo LP, of course, anad make sure that no two songs are arranged by the same person. Oh, yes, add a couple of names that fans of the old firm will recognise (Paul McCartney, George Martin, and for those who read artist credits, Klaus Voorman). Also, choose easy-on-the-ear classics. Result? A Ringo Starr LP that pretty much no-one liked. "I did it for my mum!" is what Ringo reputedly said when what was left of the Beatles got to hear it.
Now, I happen to have a soft spot for this LP, not least because it still has that indefinable air of fab-fourness about it. Somehow, each of these songs could have been dropped in on a Beatles album as Ringo's cameo singing appearance and no-one would have minded too much. The problem is hearing them all together without the prefab four in evidence. It took me ages to find a copy of this, as well.
The record plays at EX apart from a some light repeating clicks on Love Is A Many Spleandoured Thing - see photo for the mark. The sleeve is VG apart from some thumb and edge creases. There is also some sticker detritus and damage on the inside, so you can only see it when taking the record out and putting it away.
* * * * Records generally have hairline or other surface marks from removal from/insertion into sleeves - these are not mentioned unless causing audible noise. Records are play tested unless stated and any defects over and above what should be expected of the generic Record Collector grading are described in the listing. Please look at the photos carefully for condition of sleeves, etc.
UK bidders please note that eBay now has a 'closed box' invoicing system, which means that I cannot manually update postage if you win multiple items. If you are bidding on multiple items, please message me to let me know, and then wait until all auctions have finished before paying, where evidently, eBay lets you combine postage.
Non-UK bidders please note that I use eBay's Global Shipping Programme, which means that I have no knowledge of what extra charges eBay makes based on your country's customs requirements, etc. Everything goes via eBay's distribution centre in Lichfield. All I get to see is your name and a reference number.
* * * * All items are from my own various collections and most have been in storage for 20+ years. Lockdowns (and various heart ops.) made me wonder why I have thousands of records that I will never choose to listen to again.
