RL LED ZEPPELIN II Robert Ludwig HOT MIX. 1st U.S. pressing with 1841 Broadway Atlantic labels, pressed at Specialty Records Corporation (SRC) in Olyphant Pennsylvania, lacquer cut at (SS) Specialty Records Incorporated mastered by Robert Ludwig as indicated by "RL" in the dead wax ON BOTH SIDES of the record. This is the infamous Robert Ludwig "Hot Mix" that was on the very first run of U.S. copies, then quickly stopped for a less dynamic mix that has been the standard (unfortunately) for years. This is the mix that all other rock mixes are judged, highly dynamic and tons of bass, this is how rock records SHOULD sound. The Specialty version is stellar, a bit better than the Presswell, Terre Haute, or the Columbia Pitman versions in my opinion. I have not been able to hear a decent version of the Monarch so cannot attest to that version. EVERY version I have come across of this album has been severely trashed. It has been next to impossible to find a RL pressing that isn't chewed up. This one is no different but it is still an excellent listen, and very enjoyable. The mix of this album shines through the crackle for sure, still loud and punch audio despite the G+ grading.
VINYL play graded G+. Album listened to all the way to determine condition, very enjoyable listen despite the background crackle, when the music is rocking it is definitely more VG . The very beginning of side 1 and 2 are a bit rough. Very common occurrence, just a bit more wear for the first few rotations. Quiet parts have noticeable crackle, some static in places, nothing too distracting. Side 2 closer to VG.
COVER in VG condition with staining, corner bend on back cover with some paper loss, some seam wear/spine wear, pretty minimal, top seam split 2" at opening, 1" split in middle of inner gatefold (very common for this album.
