VINYL is VG/VG+
Overall quite clean glossy vinyl with a few light surface scuffs and a couple of feelabe scratches; one pop sound on Track 2, side 1, otherwise plays very decent with some noticeable background noise beneath music at beginning of sides and then clearing up quite nicely the rest of the way to play with long passages of very clear, quiet sound, and some areas with low-level background noise. Original 1st issue SILVER/BLACK (text only) TAKOMA labels are very clean, with small spot on label side 2, near left edge (See 2nd PHOTO).

COVER is VG/VG+
Clean and vibrant, solid and completely intact with mild general shelf wear. Edges straight, corners sharp. No creases, writing or splits.

Along with acoustic guitar innovators John Fahey and Leo Kottke, ROBBIE BASHO is legendary for his work on the early Takoma label. Basho had always been heavily influenced by the music of India, specifically Ravi Shankar, though his exotic blend of other cultures and traditions stands as one of the most noteworthy and earliest East-West synthesis.

Seal of the Blue Lotus is the 1965 debut from the extraordinary folk guitarist, who released numerous albums for John Fahey's Takoma label during the '60s. His mystical approach to six- and 12-string guitar improvisation shares many similarities to John Fahey in that Basho, too, was inspired by Eastern modalities -- his six-string melodies recalling the Indian ragas of Ravi Shankar. "Mountain Man's Farewell" is an outstanding piece that displays the early seeds of a revolutionary guitar style that Basho, along with John Fahey and Sandy Bull, redefined American folk music. An essential document for folk guitar fans.
