Description
Here is a circa-1964 Peacock/Universal Recording Corp. 45 rpm acetate containing an undocumented track by the highly regarded blues-influenced Gospel singer and piano player, Rev. Robert Ballinger. “Hallelujah” is a juiced up cover of the Gospel hymn that’s usually titled “The Storm Passing Over.” The recording includes some sweaty-sounding stand-up bass—I'm assuming this is Willie Dixon, who often backed up Ballinger with drummer Odie Payne. The track does not appear in Ballinger’s discography (I’ve searched under both titles and other possible permutations), nor is it on Bear Family’s 35-track Ballinger retrospective. The other side, “The Life I Sing About” was released on Ballinger’s 1964 LP, Swing Down Chariot. The disc is in VG+ condition with a few light scratches and some crackle at the start of each side.
