This is a radio interview with famed combat photographer/photojournalist Robert Capa possibly from the late 1940's to the 50's double-sided 45 RPM 10" METAL ACETATE on Associated Recording Studios (no matrix # or radio station/show title info) and comes in the original Associated Recording Studios flapped pouch. Unfortunately, for the portions of this recording that I've listened to, I was unable to determine the full names of the interviewer (Tex) and his sidekick/co-interviewer (?), but Tex does refer to Capa's new book, "Slightly Out Of Focus", released in 1947, and includes an adlibbed commercial for Savarin coffee. What makes this interview with Capa so great, as he speaks at length and in detail about his travels with John Steinbeck in Russia for their joint book, "A Russia Journal", as well as commenting on Steinbeck cooking him breakfast before the interview. Also included in this interview, is Capa's description of capturing his most famous photographs, as well as of his travels. I've included nearly 14- minutes of segments from this 22+ minute interview below. This may just possibly be the ONLY recording of this live, on-the-air interview that was made or surviving today, so don't pass up this opportunity!!!

Just a note for those unfamiliar with metal acetates - these records are extra heavy from the center of the record being made of metal. These records are the first versions ever cut from the master tapes (even before test pressings or promo copies and sound the best) for the purpose of feedback on the mix by those involved in the recording process. These discs were expensive to make, so very few, if no more than one are usually made and as you can imagine, these discs are quite RARE and sometimes the mixes can be different from the final release. As you can imagine, acetates are the closest to the purest, highest fidelity sound of the master tape, as so few plays of the master tape have occured and therefore acetates are SUPER RARE and highly sought after!!!

The vinyl on this acetate is in very good condition and plays solidly, but with some light scuffs/scratches/sleeve marks/stains/noise hear and there, which doesn't effect the play, audio or enjoyment of this disc. There is NO whitening or chips/flakes to the acetate surface. I didn't attempt any physical cleaning on this fragile Acetate, for fear of damage. If you wish to physically clean it or even import it into your computer to edit it to make it sound pristine, I'll leave that up to you. You can hear sound samples of the side/song below, which is from the actual record in this auction, and you'll notice that I've given a few distinct samples from different sections of this acetate to give you an idea of condition, sound and mix. My good friend Norm did a little web detective work for me and discovered a bit more on the interviewers. They were a married couple, named Tex McCrary and Jinx Falkenburg. Tex was a journalist and Jinx was a cover girl model of the 1930's & 1940's. In early 1946 they began a radio interview show on WEAF in New York, called "Hi, Jinx", for which they are known for having pioneered and brought to the masses what is known as the talk show.
