Extremely rare non-commercial issue documenting the legendary austrian festival Steirischer Herbst of 1975. Composers presented are Robert Moran, Roman Haubenstock-Ramati & Gosta Neuwirth. Performers include Alfons & Aloys Kontarsky, Heinrich Schiff and others.

Some info on the release:  Bloody rare non-commercial issue, released in Austria sometime in the mid-70's in the Musikprotokoll series (where appeared also artists like Phill Niblock, Klaus Lang, John Cage, Gyorgy Ligeti, Ernst Jandl, Gerhard Ruhm and others) documenting the famous festival Streirischer Hernst. This album features works from 3 composers: Robert Moran, Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and Gosta Neuwirth. Robert Moran's "Pachelbel Promenade" is one of his 3 "city works" created for the old city of Graz, incorporates field recordings and variations-improvisations of a canon for strings and bass continuo from Johann Pachelbel recorded on a 8-channel tape. Also on this album Gosta Neuwirth's "Der Garten der Pfade, die sich verzweigen" and Roman Haubenstock Ramati's "Sonate fur cello solo" performed by Heinrich Schiff. No need to tell you how rare this one is...

Robert Moran was born in Denver, Colorado on January 8, 1937. His early studies were with E.Apostel in Vienna, where he focused on twelve-tone composition. In 1963, Moran completed his Masters Degree at Mills College, where his principal teachers were Luciano Berio and Darius Milhaud. Upon graduation, Moran continued his association with Berio at La Scala in Milan, and then returned briefly to Vienna to sign a publishing contract with Universal Editions for various music-graphic works. Later that year, Moran returned to the U.S. and assumed a composition post at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, forming shortly thereafter the San Francisco New Music Ensemble, which he directed until 1972.

Moran's early notoriety came in August 1969, following the creation of a "city-work" for San Francisco, incorporating 100,000 performers, two radio stations, a television station, thirty skyscrapers, six airplanes, dance ensembles in the streets, etc. The success of this work soon led to a commission for a second "city-work," entitled Hallelujah, for the city of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in April 1971 - which incorporated all musical forces in the city, performing music based upon melodies of Moravian settlers to the region. A third "city-work," entitled Pachelbel Promenade, was later commissioned by the city of Graz, Austria, in 1975.

Roman Haubenstock-Ramati was a composer and music editor who worked in Kraków, Tel Aviv and Vienna. Haubenstock-Ramati studied composition, music theory, violin and philosophy in Kraków and Lemberg from 1937 to 1940. Among his teachers were Artur Malawski and Józef Koffler. From 1947 to 1950 he was head of the music department of Kraków Radio. From 1950 he was a professor at the Tel Aviv Music Academy, where he also led the setting-up of a central music library. In 1957 he was awarded a six-month stipend for the Academy for Musique Concrète. From 1958 he was an editor of new music for Universal Edition in Vienna. In addition he gave guest lectures and composition seminars in Tel Aviv, Stockholm, Darmstadt, Bilthoven (the Netherlands) and Buenos Aires, and from 1973 held a professorship at the Musikhochschule in Vienna.

Condition: Vinyl lies in excellent- condition, looks super clean, but plays with slight crackle on places, while cover lies in pristine shape, mint like new.
