ROBERT PALMER "Addicted To Love" RARE Shaped 80s PICTURE DISC W/Two BONUS 12"

British rock legend Robert Palmer began making music at the end of the 60s and the early 70s. By 1974, FIFTY years ago, Palmer released his first solo album, titled 'Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley". He recorded it in New Orleans, and even used New Orleans funk pioneers The Meters as his backing band!

Palmer recorded solo albums through the 70s and 80s, and joined the Power Station in 1985, with Duran Duran's Andy Taylor (on guitar), and John Taylor (on bass). They even had Tony Thompson from the 70s disco and funk band Chic on drums! That first Power Station album was a huge success, and he left (before the start of the Power Station's first tour) to return to his solo career. Palmer released his biggest hit album in 1986, calling it 'Riptide'.

'Riptide' gave us a few hits, but the biggest was "Addicted to Love". Duran Duran and Power Station's Andy Taylor plays guitar on this catchy song, and the video features several beautiful models who all looked alike! (Which was done on purpose.) That album also had the hits: "Didn't Mean to Turn You On", "Discipline of Love", and "Hyperactive".

"Addicted to Love" was released on a special, limited edition, shaped picture disc in 1986. Both the A side, and the B side feature one of the ladies from the video. Which one? I can't tell...they all looked the same! Lol A very limited number of these were made, so when they do pop up here on eBay, they usually go for big buck$, but not here, and not today!

I'll make this a triple shot of vintage 80s Robert Palmer vinyl, and you'll get the shaped picture disc for the single "Addicted to Love", (backed with "Remember to Remember"), and TWO different 12" records for the song "Discipline of Love"! The first 12" is the first edition, in a solid black generic die-cut Island Records sleeve. That one has the vocal edit and the LP version. The second 12" has the LP version of "Discipline of Love", plus two extra tracks: "Woke Up Laughing" and "Dance For Me". This one's cover is a great shot of Palmer on the front, and song titles and credits on the back.

The shaped picture disc was bought at a flea market in the early 90s, and is a bit warped. There's also a few white specks on the B side, as it was possibly on someone's wall? But the A side looks great, and this is still a nice and rare 80s collectible to have. Both sides have light surface marks on them, and I'm not sure how this sounds as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs.

The two 12" singles look really good, and I'm not seeing any scratches, gouges, or scuffs on them. One has a few very, very light surface marks on it, but nothing bad, and hardly noticeable. Both jackets look really good for something that's coming up on FORTY years old! Robert Palmer passed away in 2003, TWENTY years ago last year. (RIP Robert. You were truly one of a kind, knew how to dress well and look sharp, and made some musical magic through the years...and you are missed!)
