THE MOMENT the riff to 'Shame The Devil' kicks in its easy to be transported back 40 years to a time and a place where things were so much better and the music meant so much more. Sure, Trower's got the Hendrix vibe oozing out of his finger tips but Jimmy Dewer's vocals takes the whole thing it to a new level of brilliance.
For my money this is arguably Trower's best album and one that I personally bought at the time it was released. His lazy, heavy Hendix style guitar work was a revelation to me at the time. Sure I liked Zep and worshipped Purple but I'd never heard something so bluesy and so wonderfully succinct. His guitar playing sounded as though the notes were just dripping off the guitar - the sustain and vibrato suggested that he could hold a note for as long as he wanted. His look (mochasins, fringed jacket and a face like a fish) just added to the vibe - a cosmic time traveller on a laid back mercy mission armed with a Stratocaster and a Marshall stack.
'Shame The Devil', 'Gonna Be More Suspicious' and 'Confessin' Midnight' are quintessential Trower - all bottom end and huge contageous riffhem, fingers flicking off solos like they were going out of fashion. I will make my position clear - these three songs are for my money the greatest guitar tracks that have ever been recorded outside of 'Voodoo Chile'. 'It's Only Money' slows down the pace with a heavy dinoseur plod allowing Bill Lordan and Dewer to pace themselves appropriately as Trower continues to off load monsterous solos. 'Alethea' and 'Fine Day' are the closet the unit gets to real songs - that's tight, three minute slices of infectious blues rock.
A truly brilliant album and so hard to find without sleeve wear or damage - thin paper stock. This one is in great shape.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Beautiful clean and shiny condition. No spindle marks on labels and no other signs of use. Grades as a lovely shop fresh MINT!
Cover: Virtually no signs of any use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated cover - retains original printers bloom. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and one or two crease flecks from spine. Nice stiff spine - straight and firm. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 41 years after release. Grades as a beautiful Nr shop fresh MINT-!
