Offered for sale is an original test pressing of the 1976 LP, Robin Trower Live!

The copy of Robin Trower Live! offered for sale here is a test pressing, pressed for evaluation purposes by record company personnel.  Test pressings are pre-production issues intended for in-house use only to test the integrity of the stampers and to make sure that the finished product will sound as intended.  Typically, only a handful of test pressings of any record are manufactured, strictly for record company employees' use in evaluating what will become the finished product.  While it is impossible to know how many copies of a test pressing of such albums exist, it wouldn't be unreasonable to guess that the quantity is less than 20.

Based on the success of Twice Removed from Yesterday, Bridge of Sighs, and For Earth Below, former Procol Harum guitarist Robin Trower released a live album to show off his live chops.  The album sold well and got good reviews; here's what AllMusic.com had to say about it:

An excellent recording of a superb 1975 stadium show in Sweden, Robin Trower's Live album is a perfect snapshot of the guitar hero in his prime. The record also gives ample evidence of why the Robin Trower Band was one of the most successful live guitar rock acts of the '70s, highlighting not only Trower's virtuoso Stratocaster licks, but the soulful vocals of bassist James Dewar and the polyrhythmic drumming of Bill Lordan ... Although none of the performances stray too far from the songs' studio versions, that fact is part of what makes this album interesting. Live shows the Robin Trower Band to be a quintessential no-frills blues-rock band, capable of kicking serious ass no matter what the setting.

This copy has blank labels that say “Columbia Record Productions Test Pressing.”  While there are places on the label to write in information by hand, no one has done so.  Matrix numbers are 31981-1A RE-1 and 31982-1A RE-1.  An original label copy sheet is attached, listing the songs, timings, and publishing information.

THE RECORD

The record is a beautiful VG++, showing only some very minor scuffs from having been removed from the paper sleeve.  The record doesn't look like it's been played more than a couple of times.  It's simply gorgeous.

THE COVER

The cover on this one is a plain white cover, with the label copy sheet attached to it with transparent tape.  The sheet and cover are in excellent condition.
