Description
Here we have a nice REAL "SUN" record from Memphis Tennessee, which features some primal mad rockabilly. It's Sonny Burgess, with "Red Headed Woman" and "We Wanna Boogie" on a 7" 45rpm SUN single, catalogue number 247. The matrix numbers in the wax around the label are U198 and U199. As you can hear from the video (made with the "mono" button pressed), it sounds OK. BUT... It ain't perfect. I bought it in about 1980 when I went to the USA "to find myself" (spoiler alert.. I failed). This record was in a junk shop near Lubbock Texas, along with several others in a horrid 50's PVC book-type album. It was the kind of PVC that smells like a beach-ball. Several records were firmly stuck to the PVC and others were "hazed" but were playable. I found a nice clean copy of Screaming Jay Hawkins "I Put A Spell On You" that had escaped the PVC and a few doo wop 45s. And then there was this fine record... SUN 247. This is only slightly "hazed" and has a moderately dull-ish surface. However, it plays OK (lend an ear'ole to the video) and isn't scratched or bent. It looks like it's been used on a juke-box, judging by some marks around the run-out groove, but it's NOT been thrashed. There's plenty of life in it. There's no writing on the nice clean label. It comes in a (somewhat later) genuine SUN paper sleeve, which you can see Mr Fuffy, my one-eyed cat, admiring. His "red-headed" friend is Ginger Jeff.
I've consulted my dear good friend Mr "Diz" Kogz, and the disc looks to me to be completely genuine and NOT a re-issue. Have a listen, and have a think, and after you've thunk, try a bid. It's a GREAT record and a prime piece of Rock 'n' Roll history. Buy it now before the asteroid hits.
