Description
ROCK, ROCK, ROCK - Various Artists Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - A "DCA Release" (no number) original ultra-scarce deep groove promo-only first pressing rock & roll Alan Freed movie soundtrack compilation lp from 1955. (Later released as the first lp on Chess Records but with a different cover and eight fewer songs).
This came from the collection of a New York City area disk jockey. This record is the soundtrack for the movie, Rock, Rock, Rock and features the first time that CHUCK BERRY appears on lp. Also on the album are Frankie Lymon and the Teen-Agers, Laverne Baker, Jimmy Cavallo and his House Rockers, The Three Chuckles, Cirino and the Bow Ties, The Flamingos, The Moonglows, the Johnny Burnette Trio and Alan Freed's 18 Piece Rock n' Roll Band. This movie also featured the film debut of the lovely Tuesday Weld. Many of these lp's were distributed to radio stations in plain white covers; a few, including this one, had the illustrated two-tone cover (derived from the original movie poster). The bottom left says "a dca release" which is a distributor that appears pretty much only in the 1950s and distributed music and film (Distributors Corporation of America). The record itself has the words "Roost side 1" on the first side and "Roost Side 2" on the reverse etched into the trailoff vinyl. Roost was a R&B and jazz label in the 50's that was taken over about 1958. The actual movie soundtrack was later released on Chess Records after the movie's release in 1956. This earlier promo album was released in 1955. There are 20 tracks on the album. There is no album number or date printed on the record's label. Cover and record state "Disc Jockey Sample - Not For Sale".
The record is VG+ to Near Mint condition (high gloss with a couple minor paper lines and some track numbers circled in pen on label); rare cover is Near Mint (but for very very mild discoloration and a very small light moisture mark bottom right).
This is a genuinely scarce, rare recording and this one is in great condition. Nice!
