Ken Clark & His Merry Mountain Boys - Ho! Ho! Love 'Em Joe b/w Quit Fool (Mamma's Lookin')
Record grades between VG and VG+. No deep scratches, but several light surface marks. Plays very well, still has plenty of shine, with no skips.
Both sides written by Clark, who was an avid writer for Starday Records in the late '50s and early '60s.
Aside from his own bluegrass, hillbilly, honky-tonk, and country recordings for Starday, his songs were also covered by Cowboy Copas, Hylo Brown, Kenny Roberts, Wayne Raney, the Willis Brothers, Rome Duke and others). If you are a Starday fan such as myself, you can also buy my new book on Starday Records which came out this January on University Press of Mississippi (I'd recommend either Countysales or Amazon).
As for this record, the A-side has been reissued on a few rockabilly comps, notably the Texas Gold Starday Story Vol. 3, but it was also reissued on the recent Righteous label CD, Radiogram: 24 Songs That Inspired Gram Parsons. I believe to be Ken's first recording for Starday, around 1958...
Though I only have one copy of this record (I usually only sell my duplicates), I noticed that a copy of this record sold for $516 over the weekend and I think the labels on my copy are even a little better.
