ARTIST DESCRIPTION (Scroll Down For Supersize Pictures)
Roderick David “Rod” Stewart, CBE (born 10 January 1945) is a British singer and songwriter born and raised in London, England and currently residing in Epping. He has Scottish and English parentage.
With his distinctive raspy tenor voice, Stewart came to prominence in the late 1960s and early ’70s with The Jeff Beck Group and then Faces. He launched his solo career in 1969 with his debut album An Old Raincoat Won’t Ever Let You Down (US: The Rod Stewart Album). His work with The Jeff Beck Group and The Faces proved to be influential on the formation of the heavy metal and punk rock genres, respectively. Both bands were also pioneers of blues-rock.
In a career now entering its fifth decade, Stewart has achieved 27 top 10 hit singles worldwide. Although the quality of his recordings has varied at times, he is widely recognized as among the best interpretive singers of recent times, and has consistently been a presence on the charts since the early 1970s.
ALBUM DESCRIPTION (Scroll Down For Supersize Pictures)
An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down was the debut album by Rod Stewart, released in February 1970 on Vertigo Records (catalogue No. VO4 - Rod was fourth artist for this new, "progressive" label). It was titled The Rod Stewart Album in the The United States, released in November 1969 on Mercury Records and got #139 on U.S. albums chart.
Track Listing

2. "Man of Constant Sorrow" - trad. arranged by Rod Stewart
3. "Blind Prayer" - Rod Stewart
4. "Handbags and Gladrags" - Mike D'Abo
5. "An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down" - Rod Stewart
6. "I Wouldn't Ever Change A Thing" - Rod Stewart

THE AUDIO
The audio is loud and vibrant throughout with great stereo reproduction. However is does play with the odd pop, tick and light background static type crackle, some of this may well be caused by dirt. track one side two has a light needle mark which causes background clicks/ticks through the start of the track. In my opinion, on my systems, the album is still a very playable copy.
THE VINYL
The vinyl has a nice gloss and on initial inspection it looks very clean with barely any marks. On close inspection, under an angled bright light there are a few scuff marks but nothing serious apart from the mark on side two track one.
THE COVER
COVER
The unlaminated gatefold cover which normally does not survive well, is in superb condition, with no writing. Front and rear are in virtually original condition, the only minor flaw being a tiny scuff just to the top left of the Vertigo logo on the front. Inside the spread looks great with only a few minor scuffs preventing it also being near original. The corners, top and bottom have virtually no wear at all. The spine is in great condition straight and square with a minimal amount of rubbing. Overall a top cover considering the 40 years of wear it has had.
THE LABELS
The labels are the first press Vertigo Spiral and have no marks or writing, only under an angled bright light can only a minimal amount of spidering be seen.
THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
