ROD STEWART-SING IT AGAIN ROD: With its bar glass-shaped LP cover and smooth distillation of Rod Stewart's indispensable first four platters, this canny collection goes down as quickly as a free drink. The former Faces front man interprets The Stones (Street Fighting Man), Motown (I Know I'm Losing You), Elton John (Country Comfort), Sam Cooke (Twistin' the Night Away), and The Who (an orchestrated Pinball Wizard) with equally tasteful aplomb. Transatlantic chart-topper Maggie May and its sound-alike follow up You Wear It Well (both Stewart originals) are cool and catchy cornerstones of early seventies pop radio, while deeper tracks such as Gasoline Alley, Lost Paraguayos, and Handbags & Gladrags show off Stewart's casual folky side. The tour de force title track from breakthrough album Every Picture Tells a Story should have been included, but that's a minor quibble, given the uniform excellence of the even dozen offerings on display. Sing It Again Rod, the first of umpteen collections chronicling the rooster-haired rocker's formative years may not be a substitute for must own LPs like Every Picture and Never a Dull Moment...but his cheeky humor, trademark raspiness, and sublime songwriting shine through at every turn.

(b)          The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(c)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
