Roger Waters : The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking A-2U / B-1U 1st Press 1984

This first pressing plays with such quality and the clarity and depth of the audio is stunning.  The only interference is one click / pop on the final track of S1 but aside from that you cannot fault it.  There are of course so many quiet sections so you might expect some background static but aside from a handful of mega light static ticks the clarity is exceptional.  S1 is very impressive and S2 is comparable to an un-played record!

The infamous cover is in great condition with only the bare (pun fully intended!) minimum of shelf wear and has been so well looked after over the last 40 years.  It still has the original Our Price sticker on the front.  The inner sleeve is probably not the original but is nonetheless in superb condition.

The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T1 intro Near Mint / T6 first verse Ex-)

The audio S2 is Mint(-) (T6 Near Mint)

The gatefold is Near Mint-

The inner sleeve is Near Mint

The labels are Near Mint-

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy look with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a few faint hairlines which obviously have no affect on the superb audio.  The labels are very clean - unmarked with only a little spindle wear.

Play grading

The ticking clock intro on '4.30 (Apparently They Were Dreaming)' plays so clearly with only a couple of light statics and the next section incorporating the 'crash' and the spoken vocal plays with real clarity.  The acoustic / vocal section that follows is stunning!  So quiet and yet you can hear every subtle nuance in the music, you miss nothing not even then birdsong, and that is because the clarity is of the highest standard.  A Near Mint intro and then Mint from that point on.

'4.33 (Running Shoes)' plays with exceptional sonic quality throughout.  From the first powerful vocal to the final quiet vocal the audio is 'as new' and Mint is an easy grade to give.

The segue into '4.37 (Arabs With Knives...)' is faultless and it continues with a clarity that could hardly be any more impressive.  I noticed a couple of very quiet static sounds but as per the album so far there is no actual background static and Mint- is deserved.

'4.39 (For The First Time Today - Part 2' has no background at all, the clarity is stunning and then '4.41 (Sexual Revolution)' is just as impressive.  Once again I cannot fault the sonic quality because put simply there is no intrusion on the audio, not even a dust tick.  Incredible power and clarity in equal measure and both grade as Mint

'4.47 (The Remains Of Our Love)' ends S1 with just one pop after the first verse.  If it's caused by a needle drop mark I certainly can't see it!  The remainder plays without any background.  Difficult to grade in a sense as 99% is perfect!  I will say Ex- for the first verse and Mint for the rest of the track.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The acoustic intro on '4.50 (Go Fishing)' plays beautifully with only a small number of barely audible statics and Waters' opening vocal is just as impressive.  The following instrumental (very Final Cut!) plays with great clarity also as does the next vocal section.  From then on the playback is so clean, each note is kind of enhanced in a way because the original sonic quality is still very much there.  During the powerful sections it plays loud and true with no distortion and the quieter passages play so clearly with no intrusion.  Mint-

In fact there is no need to describe each track in detail here as they all play with breathtaking quality!  The sound quality could not be any more precise and the title title track '5.01 (The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking)' is a prime example of that.  It is 'as new', I cannot emphasise enough how stunning it is!  Mint in every way and that also applies to all the other tracks on this side.  The clarity on this side is exceptional!

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The glossy cover is in superb condition with only the bare minimum of shelf wear.  The edges have hardly any rubbing and the wide spine is 100% legible with only a small indent in the centre.  The corners are very clean, just a minor rub bottom right, and the opening edge has very little handling wear.  The front cover (with original price sticker) is unmarked with just two small creases next to the spine and the back cover is perfect.  The inside of the gatefold is also in immaculate condition with no marking, a stunning example overall.

The plain white die-cut inner is in great shape with no side splits or tears, no marking and hardly any creasing.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
