R. Ericson & Bleibalien: Red Temple Prayer (Two Headed Dog) b/w Starry Eyes; US Mars Records No1000
Matrix: # 1000 555/6 97839-X
Band: Roky Erickson (vocals & guitar), Doug Sahm (lead guitar), Billy Miller (autoharp), Mike Ritchey (bass), Hugh Patton (drums).
The first single of Roky's solo career following the demise of the 13th Floor Elevators and his much publicised difficulties. This very rare single features earliest workings of two songs which would reappear as different versions on later recordings & feature regularly in his live shows. Produced by fellow Texan Doug Sahm (Sir Douglas Quintet) who also plays lead guitar on the tracks.
Note that the label states an alternative spelling: R. Ericson!
The matrix nos. etched into the dead wax (see above) confirm this as an original and not a 90's issued repro.
Condition: EX-. Record plays with some surface noise, possibly due to a poor pressing.
