ROLAND KIRK QUARTET MEETS THE BENNY GOLSON ORCH – MERCURY 20844 – EX/EX - MONO
There are two recording sessions on this LP. The first, recorded on June 11, 1963 is featured with the Benny Golson Orchestra. The personnel is: Rahsaan Roland Kirk (ts,manzello,fl,stritch, siren) acc by the Benny Golson Orchestra : Virgil Jones, Richard Williams (tp) Tom McIntosh, Charles Greenlee (tb) Don Butterfield (tu) Harold Mabern (p) Richard Davis (b) Albert "Tootie” Heath on drums. They play ECCLUSIASTICS, BY MYSELF; ROLAND SPEAKS. A NIGHTINGALE SANG IN BERKLEY SQUARE and VARIATIONS ON A THEME. The second session, recorded on June 12, 1963 features Kirk on ((ts,manzello,fl,stritch), Harold Mabern on piano, Abdullah Rafik on bass and Gerald “Sonny” Brown on drums. They perform: I’VE GOT YOUR NUMBER, BETWEEN THE FOURTH AND THE FIFTH STEP; APRIL MORNING; GET IN THE BASEMENT and ABSTRACT IMPROVISATION. This is a MONO recording.
I’ve graded the LP and the record jacket as EX for the following reasons. The LP just misses a M- grading, as the vinyl on both sides is clear, except for a very light mark on Side 2, which does not interfere with play. There are some marks around the spindle hole. The same goes for the record jacket as it is in excellent condition, except for some slight damage on the top left corner of the liner notes. There are no taped seams and no sign of wear, other than what I just pointed out. If you have any questions, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks.
PAYMENT & SHIPPING
Satisfaction guaranteed on item. I regret that the USPS has raised their prices. The LP will be well packed. Fully packed in a crush proof box, it weighs 1.8 pounds. Due to increased cost, I have to charge an additional $1.00 for packing in the crush proof box. Believe me, it’s worth it! The method of payment is PayPal. As of October 20, 2008, eBay has decided to make PayPal the only method of payment for this item! This way, eBay has you coming and going! If you are a bidder who prefers to pay by other means, I suggest that you file a complaint! I regret the inconvenience. The LP will be shipped either by Media Rate @ $2.98 or by Priority Mail @ $5.80 and up depending where you reside. Overseas bidders should consider First Class Mail International. The cost to Europe and Asia begins at $20.45 in the crush proof box. It’s worth it! USPS has hammered overseas shipping!
