*ONE OF A SMALL COLLECTION OF JAZZ LPs I RECENTLY ACQUIRED WHICH I WILL BE LISTING OVER THE COMING DAYS - ALL IN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING CONDITION
A real stormer – and one of Kirk's best records. Half the album is quartet material, recorded by a group that includes Harold Mabern on piano and Sonny Brown on drums. The other half features a large group that includes Mabern, Richard Davis, and Albert Heath. Golson's arrangements from this time are always a treat, and are always soulful, with a lot of respect for the soloist in the front.
Kirk's tone is impeccable – and the whole session sparkles on every track
