[I had some trouble with my Weeping Willow tree today while taking pictures - it kept hurling excess dead leaves onto my photo table! Soon as I'd sweep them away, out would come a new batch. So I went with the flow.]
THE FISKE UNIVERSITY JUBILEE SINGERS were founded in 1871, and toured the U.S.A. to help raise money for their Alma Mater. They sang beautiful spirituals, and by their dress and deportment, raised consciousness across the country about the true capabilities of black people - much as Duke Ellington did decades later. Some idea of their success may be gathered from the fact that they, and Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, are STILL are going strong today!

ABOUT fifty years into their career, in 1922, they made this Columbia record: “ROLL, JORDON [sic], ROLL” backed with “I KNOW THE LORD LAID HIS HAND ON ME.” They had been recording for Columbia since 1909.
This original “Exclusive Artist” Columbia A3657 is in lovely EE- condition. There are about fifteen seconds of stressed grooves at the beginning of “I Know the Lord,” which look odd, but add hardly any noise to the record.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!
