There's always been something strangely cinematic about the work of Swedish duo Roll The Dice. Even their more introspective early work, which tended to blend distinct krautrock and ambient influences with glitch-heavy electronics, had a widescreen feel. Until Silence, their follow-up to the widely acclaimed 2011 set In Dust, continues this theme. The ten-minute "Assembly", in which the sound of industrial hammering and foreboding chords make way for epic strings, is particularly potent, but there are similarly impressive examples at every turn. Check, for example, the heart-aching rush of "Perpetual Motion", or the relentless steam-hammer and delicate pianos of "In Deference", which offers a thrilling conclusion to a brilliantly evocative LP.
