BEGGARS BANQUET 1968 mono vinyl album by THE ROLLING STONES
You are viewing my rare 12" vinyl album from 1968 entitled, 'BEGGARS BANQUET' recorded by THE ROLLING STONES. This is a UK Pressing.
Released on the DECCA label, with reference number LK 4955, this is the rare MONO version that has the UNBOXED DECCA label on the red centre label and has the matrix numbers of XARL-8476-4A (Side One) and XARL-8477-2A (Side Two), indicating this is a First Issue pressing. This record has the J.T. tax code stampers located in the run off groove (12 oClock to the matrix numbers). The usual tax code stamper is K.T., which indicates that the very early pressing materials were used - making this a very rare pressing! The track 'Prodigal Son' is credited to Mick Jagger and Keith Richard, later issues credit this track to Rev. Robert Watkins.
The Rolling Stones line up at the time of this recording comprised of: Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts, Keith Richards and Bill Wyman.
Beggars Banquet was Brian Jones' last full effort with the Rolling Stones. In addition to his slide guitar on 'No Expectations', he played harmonica on 'Dear Doctor', 'Parachute Woman (along with Mick Jagger) and 'Prodigal Son'; Sitar and tambura on 'Street Fighting Man'; Mellatron on 'Jigsaw Puzzle' and Stray Cat Blues' and (finally) backing vocals on 'Sympathy For The Devil'.

The album itself is in exceptionally good condition. Both sides of the record are bright and glossy and there are just one or two very light visible surface marks and no real spindle marks, which means that it plays clearly with no sticks and virtually no background noise - even on the quieter parts of the album. I have no hesitation in critically grading this album as being EX+ on both sides. This is by far the best example of this rare record I have ever seen.
The laminated gatefold album cover is printed by Garrod and Lofthouse. As the photograph also shows, the spine does have some wear and there is some light creasing to the front cover. A previous owner has written the name 'P.R. FRAMPTON' in ink on the inside front cover. I critically grade this album cover VG.
