Early issue with the unboxed Decca label - a really early copy from spring 1964. Matrix 3A/2A. Stampers 1M/1DC. The record comes housed in the very first/earliest possible sleeve printed in England by Macneill press. An early issue as indicated by the numerous errors and mis-credits that were quickly revised on subsequent pressings.
They are as follows:
Side One - Track 4 'Mona' , shown as such on the sleeve and on the label. Later corrected to 'I need you baby'. Track 3 'Honest I do' credited to Hurran/Calvert, later corrected to Reed. Publishing credit to Cromwell , later corrected to Burlington. Track 1, listed as 'Route 66', later changed to 'Get your kicks on route 66'.
Side Two - Track 4, spelling error with Bozier later corrected to Dozier. Track 5, typing error on the cover with the word 'If ' being omitted. Corrected on later prints.
The above errors are only found on the very earliest pressings of this record and were soon revised. This is therefore a very early copy indeed. This LP does not include the abbreviated version of 'Tell me' but must have come immediately after those few were produced.
The vinyl, irrespective of it's age (52 years), remains in great condition. While it has clearly been played it shows none of the normal signs of heavy use. A close visual inspection does reveal some light marks, and there is a single very fine scratch on side two that has little or no impact on the playback apart from a few barely audible ticks. There are no other feelable marks. Intros are nice and quiet and there is very little background interference. The audio has great clarity and quality, a lovely rich full range sound. There are one or two light crackles occasionally audible but this copy gives an excellent standard of playback. Of course there are no skips or repeats.
The cover is a very good example of one that is hard to find in decent condition. A first issue that has survived extremely well. There are several laminate wrinkles to the front and a bit of browning on the rear but the cover is fully intact. The flipbacks and the spine are also fully intact. There are a few digits written in green biro in the top left corner on the rear but no tears, stains or other defects. The original poly-lined DECCA inner sleeve is in excellent condition.
