This is a very Rare Early Original UK pressing with the Rolling Stones Records TM Musicdor N.V. details.

On the early pressings there was an Inverted triangle inside a circle and the ROLLING STONES RECORDS, all Hand Etched and found on run off of the vinyl, all here and only found on earliest pressings.

Here we have a complete ORIGINAL STEREO UK Pressing of the THE ROLLING STONES - EXILE ON MAIN STREET, with the Early Matrix variation, and thick card gatefold sleeve that only came with the very first US and UK pressings. This is a great opportunity to own a classic piece of musical history, in extremely rare condition. This is from my own personal collection, and looks and sounds great!

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - NEAR MINT sound quality throughout

These records have a strong crisp sound, which is so hard to find with 'Exile' . Strong, undistorted Audio free of pops, clicks or distortion. It has a brilliant, TOP vinyl sound, and what a great way to hear this classic Stones masterpiece.

Top audio with little to distract form the overly enjoyment of this great record. There is minimal background noise between the tracks, and the vocal and horn clarity is amazing, and is definitely one of the best I have heard. There is some light background static at the start of 'Virginia', but not a single pop or click throughout. 'Shine a light' sings out with silence in the run ins and quiet areas. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound.

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals which come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear.

The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.

There is some minimal background static in quiet areas, but overall it is not in any way prominent. As Exile is one of the most debauched albums, usually they have been equally abused. Not this one! So rare to find a copy of Exile in this condition!

THE RECORD – EXCELLENT PLUS Condition

A stunning set of glossy vinyl’s, you would be hard pushed to find better! These records have only the faintest of handling marks, which can be seen under a very strong spot light. There are a few ultra faint hairlines, and handling marks, only. They have been played, but carefully and show no groove wear.

This is a really wonderful set in great condition.

Exile on Main St. is the tenth studio album by The Rolling Stones. It was released as a double LP in 1972 and drew on influences from rock & roll, blues, country and soul. "Exile" was initially greeted with lukewarm reviews, but is now widely considered among the band's finest works, and one of the defining masterpieces of the rock era.

In a media tornado of publicity the band decided to retreat to Keith Richard's villa in France, where the recording process would be plagued by difficulties, chaos and personal problems. The album was composed largely of outtakes and tracks written and recorded over the period of four years, from 1968 to 1972. Most tracks were recorded between 1969 and 1971 at Olympic Studios and Jagger's Stargroves country house in England during sessions for Sticky Fingers.

Additional tracks including "Rip this Joint", "Shake Your Hips", "Casino Boogie", "Happy", "Rocks Off", "Turd on the Run", and "Ventilator Blues", were begun in the basement of Nellcôte, the Stones French exile residence. Some were then taken to Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles where numerous overdubs of piano and keyboard parts, lead and backing vocals, guitar and bass overdubs were added during sessions between December 1971 and May 1972. Tracks such as "Torn and Frayed" and "Loving Cup" were re recorded in Los Angeles.

Despite all the problems the stones were having at the time, the album is often described as being Richards' finest moment, as Exile is thought to reflect his vision for a raw, rootsy rock sound. With Richards stuck in drug use, the group's later 1970s releases became directed largely by Mick Jagger, and would experiment with other musical genres, moving away from the thoroughly roots-based sound of the classic Exile On Main St.

THE COVER – EXCELLENT

First Press Cover in extra thick card

This is a fine cover too. The Matt finish covers of Exile have to be one of the most prone to wear, of all the classic vinyls from the sixties and early seventies. Not having the advantage of being laminated, these covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and destruction to the edges, and nearly always yellowing with age. The Spines are nearly always flattened, worn and un readable. Not this one!

This First press cover has some light scuffing to the corners, and some light rubbing along the edges, but its relatively light. The opening edges are reasonably square and un frayed. The back cover is nice and clean, with NO ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers.

The inside Gatefold is clean and largely unmarked. The Spine shows light wear only, the spine text is totally intact, and is a very square example. A great solid example with general light wear to the corners and some yellowing to the edges. All round, this is a really nice solid thick pressed cover in respectable condition, it has the inevitable yellowing, but comes with no tears, writing or sticker marks!!!

THE LABELS - EXCELLENT PLUS

Famous Yellow labels are in EXCELLENT PLUS Condition, with no marks or writing. Deep intact colour, I can see some light spindle trace only. Great all round examples!.

THE INNERS - EXCELLENT PLUS 

Superb condition, NO tears, and NO wear at the tops. Some light rubbing at the corners, although it is very light.

Crisp and Clean, - a fantastic set. The Vinyls will of course come with replacement plain white inners to protect the originals.

RARITY

An Original UK pressing of Exile on Main Street in decent condition is very scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any Exile examples with a record in this type of condition, that has a rich clear sound, is unbelievably rare.

Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.

MINT: Virtually unplayed. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover is pristine.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
