An exceptional 1 play 1st pressing in very clean condition that plays great from start to finish.   

Goats Head Soup the eleventh studio album by The Rolling Stones released in 1973. It was recorded as the follow-up to 1972's critically acclaimed Exile on Main St. Goats Head Soup has a more polished production than the raw and ragged Exile. It reflected the resurgence of soul-pop and the rise of funk, while maintaining the Stones' distinctive rock sound. It spawned the hit single "Angie", possibly its best-known track, and topped the charts in both the US and the UK.

The lp was mostly put together in 1972 in Kingston, Jamaica but recording was completed in 1973 January in Los Angeles and May at London's Olympic Sound Studios. A cracking addition to any Stones collection. 

Recording began as early as 1970. Two tracks, "Silver Train" and "Hide Your Love", resulted from these early sessions and re-appeared in November 1972 when the band relocated to Kingston, Jamaica's Dynamic Sound Studios. Guitarist Keith Richards said in 2002, "Jamaica was one of the few places that would let us all in! By that time about the only country that I was allowed to exist in was Switzerland, which was damn boring for me, at least for the first year, because I didn't like to ski... Nine countries kicked me out, thank you very much, so it was a matter of how to keep this thing together..." 

At the time of release, Jagger said, "I really feel close to this album, and I really put all I had into it... I guess it comes across that I'm more into songs. It wasn't as vague as the last album which kind of went on so long that I didn't like some of the things. There's more thought to this one.” 

Preceded by "Angie" as the lead single, which sailed to #1 in the United States and became a worldwide hit, Goats Head Soup was released in late August 1973 and also shot to #1 worldwide. The Rolling Stones' autumn 1973 European Tour followed soon after, in which three slots in the set list were given to the new material. The album was called; "one of the year's richest musical experiences"

The album cover was designed by Ray Lawrence and photographed by David Bailey, a friend of Jagger's who had worked with The Rolling Stones since 1964. The portrait of Jagger on the front cover was approximately life size in the original 12 inch LP format.  

ALBUM PLAYED FOR AUDIO GRADING:

Yes – brilliant!  sound quality throughout! 

This is a thick quality pressing with the wide pressed grooves, making the audio play back pack an incredible punch. Strong, undistorted sound free of any loud pops or clicks. The channels are clean and unstressed. The record plays with staggering power, with barely any detectable surface sound at all. I doubt you could find a cleaner original pressing. I will give a detailed account below:

'Dancin With Mr D' bursts in with superb clear audio. A tiny bit of static at the very start, the track plays with bright loud sound, there are no pops or clicks, no static during play, and certainly no distortion. The tracks ends and there is silence between the tracks. '100 Years Ago' plays with perfect separation leading into the quieter 'Coming Down Again'. This track is the first real test for Goats Head, with multi layering but also a sparseness, it plays superbly. The vocal clarity is incredible. NO occasional static and NO pops, clicks or even static tics. Again very quiet between tracks and then into 'Doo Doo Doo Doo Heart Breaker' which sounds great, just perfect audio. 

'Angie' opens with a very clean intro, amazingly clear and bright. There is no static in the middle as there nearly always is. Still no pops or clicks, with no light static at the start, which again is unusual for this record. All the sound effects that make up this track are sharp and clear. No light static during any parts of the track, it rounds off side one and sounds wonderful with bright audio that really as perfect as vinyl can deliver.

Side 2. begins with the classic upbeat 'Silver Train'. It plays through brilliantly with no pops or clicks, and minimal static. 'Hide Your Love' plays beautifully, again with no light occasional static, and no obvious sound interference. There is a tiny bit of static between the tracks but nothing obtrusive. 'Winter' sounds great, with no loud pops or other sound interruptions. Being ultra critical, I could hear one or two light tics during the music, but even they are barely audible. 

'Can You Hear The Music' sounds superb, with bright clear sound and NO pops or clicks. It maintains the high standard of this great vinyl, it plays superbly, with amazingly clear loud sound. Rounding off the album  with 'Star Star', the track sounds great, with no pops or clicks, just clear, bright rockous sound. 

This is a great early press of Goats Head Soup, with no loud clicks or pops anywhere and certainly other interference's. There is virtually no light static to report anywhere, and that is unbelievably rare for ANY vinyl, let along one thats over forty years old. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find vinyl with this type of sound. 

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals which come through with tremendous power. As is the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear.

A great all round example of this great vinyl. 

I would give this great record an audio grading of NEAR MINT.

THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING 

This is an exceptional pressing of Goats Head Soup. A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. 

Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original pressings, this vinyl is vitally un played. In daylight it looks unmarked. 

Can easily grade at least at NEAR MINT.

THE LABELS 

A wonderful set of yellow Labels. Deep colour with no visible fading and or spindle traces part from a single tiny faint line on each side. These famous 1st labels in great Condition, with no scratches or writing. Great all round examples.

THE COVER

A great cover for this rare 1st pressing. The Matt finish covers of Goats Head Soup are very prone to wear. Being light in colour and not having the advantage of being laminated, these covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and destruction to the edges. The Spines are nearly always flattened, worn and un readable. Not this one!

There is some very light scuffing to the corners, and some light rubbing along the edges, but its relatively slight. The opening edges are very square and un frayed. The back cover is nice and clean, with NO ring wear, which is unheard of for these delicate covers. I don't think Ive ever seen one with out serious colour loss to the rear panel. 

The inside Gatefold is clean and virtually unmarked and it still creaks when opened. The Spine shows minimal wear only, the spine text is totally intact, and is nice and square. A great solid example. All round, this is a really nice cover!!!

Comes with the Original 1st Press Patent No. Inner Sleeve in great condition, - NO tears around the die cut opening, NO seem splits and NO wear at the top. Just some light discolouration. A strong example.

A 1st pressing of Goats Head Soup in this type of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any 1st PRESS examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays practically perfectly, is very rare.

The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is one of the better examples. Finding a nice cover like this, with a stunning piece of vinyl, fantastic!.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
