Black and Blue album had the Rolling Stones sounding funky, sounding groovy, and doing it all so perfectly. Reaching number two in Britain and number one in the U.S., Black and Blue's success was really no surprise, but the disco-funk skip of the opening track kind of was. "Hot Stuff" didn't make the Top 40, but considering the time it was released and the novelty it brandished, especially when coming from the Stones, it really should have. Opening up with the funkiest of riffs, "Hot Stuff" wastes no time in expressing its disco tag, flaunting a pastel sound that is wonderfully facetious. Simple but cheaply attractive, Keith Richards' guitar spanking and Mick Jagger's ballooned vocals are brought together so that "Hot Stuff"'s dancefloor smile can be stretched ear to ear rather than remain just a smirk. The tempo is just right, playful and overly exuberant, and Jagger's expression can almost be visualized throughout the tune's animated prance-pose-prance flow. Even Charlie Watts' drumming seems to sway a bit, and the indecipherable hands-on-the-hips bantering from Mick near the end is proof that the boys didn't venture out too far. The rest of Black and Blue harbors some refreshing spunk as well, but "Hot Stuff" sticks out a mile. Knowing that the Stones are at the helm makes it sound that much better, but, believe it or not, the novelty never wears off.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a minor 'bump' (dent) on the top seam.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.
