Description
Here is a fine original UK copy of Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones (SKL 5025) on unboxed Decca from 1969 with custom inner and coveted poster.
The iconic front-laminated single sleeve is in beautiful condition. The laminated front is gorgeous and glossy and all the original colouring remains undiminished. All the edges are straight and true including the beautifully straight and unfeathered opening edge. Even the unlaminated 1/16th of an inch narrow strip running alongside the front of the opening edge remains as unsoiled as the day it left the shop (usually this tacky little strip attracts all sorts of debris). The unlaminated rear of the sleeve with its perfectly preserved mono/stereo punched hole is in remarkably fine condition but just exhibits a few light fingermarks on the left hand side (hardly noticeable really). The spine is straight, strong and true and all the text is perfectly readable.There are no tears, rips or areas of unwanted writing. Rarely is the cover of such a universally enjoyed album found in as good condition as this.This sleeve easily warrants a grade of EX-.
The heavyweight slab of original vinyl lays flat on the turntable and plays brilliantly. Both sides of the disc look lovely when viewed in normal daylight and show only a few of the very wispiest marks when viewed under harsh halogen lighting. The album plays beautifully with no skips, jumps or clicks. The matrices are XARL-9363-P-2W and XARL-9364-P-2W. Only moderate spindle activity is apparent and certainly no spindle wear on these lovely dark blue unboxed Decca labels (see photos). This great playing stereo copy of this outstanding Stones' album easily grades VG+.
The package comes complete with a fine copy of the sought after Let It Bleed poster featuring the band seated against a large picture of the beautiful Mick! This poster has never been pinned, tacked or taped onto a wall and has no rips or tears, pinholes, writing or residue. There is evidence of a little handling although there are certainly no major creases, and if you look closely there is some very light, hardly noticeable staining in the corners.
This copy also comes with the custom blue stereo Let It Bleed inner sleeve listing the song credits. There is no mention of the choir on You Can't Always Get What You Want. This inner is probably as good as you could get with no tears, splits or unwanted writing. There is hardly even a crease.
There is no sticker on the sleeve mentioning the poster, nor indeed any sign of a sticker having been removed so perhaps there never was a sticker. The absence of any mention of the Bach Choir on the inner sleeve, the 2W/2W matrices and a slight glaze to the poster indicate this is likely to be one of the later copies of the very first pressing unboxed Decca with stereo/mono punched hole cover issue of the album.
Enjoy the hushed run-in and slow build-up of the unsurpassed intro to Gimme Shelter (complete with calling corncrakes in the background!), just as the track was meant to be heard on the warmth of original vinyl.
